WILLIAMS Walter George "Wattie"

Walter known as Wattie' was born in Port Augusta c1878.
Wattie had a blacksmith's shop in Gnowangerup. "Walter took over the Blacksmiths shop from James Bell. Walter was married to Florence Mildwaters" (Gnowangerup My Town Pearl Marshall)
"Trained in the West and then in Melbourne. Proceeded via Panama Canal to the Old Country, later to France.
Sent back to Blighty after some active service, then returned to France.
Now about to retire from blacking; having passed the age of three score and ten, [70] and suffering somewhat from foot trouble.

Another attesting to his good nature was Arthur Allardyce - "A good walk this time, and we reach the blacksmith's shop owned and worked by Walter George Williams - "one of Nature's gentlemen".

Wattie spent time at the Repat with Andy Wellstead and Clarrie Jones in 1938 before returning to Gnowangerup (THE ECHO May 1938)
Sons of Walter (aka Wattie) Williams, the Gnowangerup blacksmith:
1. Reginald John Gilmore Williams (known as Jack served in WWII)
2. Frank Williams
3. Gordon Williams (served in World War II)
